As you know, I recently launched a new process art experience for kids in Dallas where they create beautiful abstract pieces of art for their home through play! Each session is an exploration of a series of games and play experiences while using a variety of art mediums! Today I'm sharing 3 easy process to try at home with items you can purchase at the dollar store!!
1. Loofa Ball Painting
I love to start out the under layer of painting with a little spongeball or loofaball painting! It's a great way to get a little splash of color on the canvas that they can them manipulate with other tools and processes!! I purchased these loofas in a four pack for a dollar! They are awesome for any sports player in the family! Make it a challenge by giving each child a different color and see who has the most marks at the end of the round!!
2. Squeegee Painting
This is my new favorite process! A squeegee is such a fun tool to use to both push and pull paint across the canvas!! It helps spread out paint if too much is added in one area, and its also good for pulling of excess if you need the layer to dry quickly!! It creates an awesome drag pattern that I love!! I bought this squeegee at the dollar store as well and every child so far has loved playing with it!!
3. Spray Bottle Painting
You can easily pick up these spray bottles at almost any store for around a dollar!! I love to let kids put a few drops of their favorite colors in the bottle, then we add a little water to thin the paint out. Next, let them take aim at the canvas! I usually do this step after a layer or two of paint has been laid! Once they spray, go over the paint again with the squeegee and remove the excess liquid!! It leaves awesome patterns and blots that add so much texturally to your painting!!
The next time you're at the store maybe pick up a few of these to try with your own kiddos! You could wash them and reuse them, but at a dollar a piece, it's also okay to just toss them and make clean up even easier!! If you try them out, please share your pics with me! I'd love to see them!! If you live in the Dallas area and would rather them take a class with an artist guide, email me for upcoming sessions of THE PROCESS!
