While I love every holiday, Halloween has never been one of my favorites, at least in terms of decorating! I've always adopted a Fall decorating scheme that could last from September through Thanksgiving! Now that Stella is getting older and is excited about Halloween, my attitude has completely changed! We are reading so many books about ghosts, pumpkins, and trick-or-treating that when she sees the decorations in the store she gets so excited! I decided that this year would be our first year to truly decorate for Halloween!
While I wanted to decorate, I didn't want to spend a whole lot of money, and I didn't want to go too scary. We opted for cute and classic over scary! I wanted a general layout that could easily adapt back to a Fall theme once Halloween had passed! Without an overall plan in mind, I stopped by Michael's because they had their Halloween decor 60% off! I was happy to find a tinsel and wire black cat that I knew Stella would love for only $6 and I also picked up the stuff to make hanging ghosts. I bought Styrofoam balls and white plastic table cloths to make them out of.
My next stop was Dollar Tree where I hit the cheap Halloween decor jackpot! As soon as I walked in I spotted the exact style of ghost I wanted to make, but these were better and best of all, already made! I snagged five to hang from our trees! I also picked up some black glitter bats to hang from the porch, and Styrofoam headstones for the front flower bed. All were perfect and easily hung with fishing line! The only downside was that the stakes for the headstones were not supportive at all! I've had to rig a different system to keep them standing! One of the best finds were battery powered candles for my lanterns! Most elsewhere are $14 each, so $1 each was a steal! I only plan on turning them a few nights, so they'll hopefully do the trick!!
My last stop was at Tuesday Morning where I picked up an adorable "Spooky" banner which I love because that's Stella's favorite saying when she sees something a little scary! It's adorable!! I also picked up a Halloween themed flag for our flag stand.
Stella was so excited to help me hang everything once we got home! The only thing missing were pumpkins, so we ran to Home Depot and picked up a few large and small pumpkins! I originally wanted heirloom pumpkins, but we accidentally pulled our growing vines thinking they were weeds, and ones at the store cost $11 each, so it orange pumpkins for the win haha!
At the end of the day we ended up with an adorable Halloween porch for right around $75!! I love that I'm starting to live each holiday through the eyes of Stella! It truly makes everything so much more magical! Here's wishing everyone a safe and Happy Halloween!
