After I posted a photo of my latest haul of silver pieces on Instagram, I had several people ask how I use them in our home, so I wanted to share a few ways that I decorate with vintage silver trays!
My obsession with silver trays started over ten years ago, but it really took off when we bought our home in Dallas. We bought our home in downtown Dallas in 2012 and I absolutely love it! It is an adorable little 1940's bungalow in an amazing neighborhood. It's only downside is that it is teenie! I quickly learned that your money doesn't go near as far in Dallas as it does in Arkansas!
I've always loved neutrals, but in our new home, I knew that to maximize the space I needed to keep a soft, light, neutral pallet for our decor! Fortunately, this was around the time that the whole farmhouse look started to take off, so there was an influx in grey and white pieces available. While I don't lean full farmhouse, I sort of tow the line between it and French country. When I started unpacking our boxes, I found my stash of silver trays and decided that since 1) I lacked storage space for them and 2) I needed wall decor in our dining room, I'd create a gallery wall out of some of my favorites! This was where my obsession with trays on the wall began!
From there I began buying and incorporating them throughout our home! I have a few serving as filler in vignettes on our kitchen shelves, in our bathroom, in Stella's room, and in our living room! My favorite new piece is this tarnished ice bucket I found to use as my utensil holder in our kitchen!
Additionally I have a trio in our living room, and most recently I added a series above our bed and on a side wall. In our bedroom we have gold knobs on our dresser and TV desk, so I added a vintage gold plated tray to tie them together! While some would shy away from mixed metals, I personally love them! I have pops of gold all around our home. I love the different tones and tarnished areas in the trays and how they all play together so well!
I can guarantee you that I will continue to collect and find ways to display my finds in our home! If you're interested in starting your own collection, I find a lot of success by looking at local antique and thrift stores in our area! Most I find for $20 or under, and usually if you can score one or two from a thrift store they're under $10!!!!
If you're local in Dallas, try out City View Antique Mall off Abrams and Skillman!! It's my personal favorite!!
