In the Garden: A Floral 1st Birthday Party

Planning Stella's first birthday party began while she was still in the womb! From the moment I made her floral "S" for her nursery, I fell in love with the idea of a garden party inspired 1st birthday!

-I decided to host the party at our house! Despite the fact that we live in the middle of downtown Dallas, we have a relatively large backyard which we frequently use for entertaining. Even though her birthday is in the middle of July.. in Texas, I still wanted the party to be outdoors. I decided to throw a brunch party and host it at 10 a.m. so that it wasn't during the hottest part of the day. I also bought a tent to put up in the backyard to provide additional shade.

-I knew that I wanted a floral theme, but I also wanted to liven up the color scheme from the soft neutrals of her room to reflect her colorful and vivacious personality. I decided on shades of coral, pink, blush, and peach! I knew that this would be a complete DIY project, so I focused on key areas for the party: the entrance, the photo booth, the food table, the drink stations, the gift table, and the play area.

There were so many DIY elements to her party! I created tissue paper flowers and tassels to adorn all of the oversized balloons, purchased an info-graphic of her milestones and interests from Etsy and used it to create fans for the guests, built a wooden wall from old pallet wood we had to create a photo booth backdrop, repainted an old Jenny Lind high chair, and chose to make her cake myself!

One of my favorite elements from her birthday was the large wooden "1" I made for the front yard! I had leftover plywood, and on a whim decided to make it one day. It turned out to be such a great photo opportunity for all of the guests with Stella, and is definitely a tradition I will continue each year!

-To watch your baby grow over the years is such a special thing. I can't believe how fast time is flying. Looking back on these photos as I begin to plan her 2nd birthday I am getting very emotional. She is becoming the most beautiful, vivacious, and loving little toddler. I wish time would slow down just a little bit because I have a feeling that these are going to be some of my favorite memories with her!

I'm just now beginning to sift through the ideas I have for her 2nd birthday! I can't wait to share my planning process with you in the weeks to come!! Do you have any awesome summer birthday ideas for toddlers? If so, please share!!!
