There are so many amazing family events in the city around the holidays! From tree lightings to Christmas villages and Disney on Ice, I'm sharing a rundown of some the best holiday family fun in Dallas this season guaranteed to create lasting memories for years to come!
Meet live reindeer, listen to Santa read "Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer," play games, listen to holiday music, and watch a special performance by Dallas Summer Musicals! This event will be outside in the Center Court Garden!!
Y'all know how much I love the arboretum! Throughout the holiday season, visitors to the arboretum can walk through the park and admire the beautiful display featuring the 12 Days of Christmas! The park also opens at night for patrons to enjoy a magical evening in the park featuring the beautiful Christmas lights that have been installed for the season! For the little ones, every Wednesday in the park from November 18- December 30th you can visit Santa in Crepe Myrtle alley from 6-9pm!
This holiday season, Dallas Children's Theater presents Kathy Burk's Theater of Puppetry Arts in "Frosty and Friends." They also have performances of "A Charlie Brown Christmas" by Charles M. Schulz! For ticket information visit their website!
If you're looking for a fabulous Santa, every year there is a Santa visit at Preston Center including live reindeer all benefiting the North Texas Food Bank! For a donation, you get to have your photo taken with a beautiful Santa! They print you a photo immediately to take with you, and then send you the rest in a digital file within 2 weeks!! Dates aren't announced until later, but check out their website for updates!
This year the trains at North Park will mark it's 30th year with more than 75 rail cars, 1,600 feet of track, and an array of elaborate scenes! Tickets are $4 for children 2-12, $7 for adults, and children under 2 are free! All proceeds benefit Ronald McDonald House of Dallas! Over the years this event has raised more than $13 million dollars for RMHD!! It's the perfect way to divide and conquer the holiday shopping! Send one with the kids and the other hits the stores! Win win :)
After the animals go in for the evening, the zoo will transform into a winter wonderland with close to 1 million lights! Guests can stroll through the lit park, enjoy treats including spiked hot chocolate for the adults, and enjoy local entertainment! The event is free with zoo admission, so go see the animals until 4pm, and then enjoy the lights from 5-9pm! It is open every Friday-Sunday and select weeknights! Visit their website for more information!
This is probably one of the events I'm most looking forward to this year! Stella is in love with all things ballet and Nutcracker, so my mom is coming into town so that we can take her to see this performance the day before her own ballet recital!! Going to the nutcracker was a tradition growing up that I can't wait to pass onto Stella! They have performances at Winspear Opera House November 24-26 and December 1-3. Check their website for ticket information!
It's a go! Like straight out of a Hallmark movie, it was questionable this year whether or not the parade would make due to a lack of funds. In the last minute, Toyota stepped up to the plate to save the parade!! This is the highlight of holiday parades in Dallas and features marching bands, beloved characters, magical floats, larger-than-life balloons, and much more! The parade starts at 10am, but get there early if you plan on having a place close to the parade to see! For more information visit their website!
Nissan is hosting the tree lighting at Kylde Warren park! This event is perfect for the whole family! There will be many events throughout the day including photos with Santa, kid's crafts, face painting, food trucks, holiday music including a Big Band performance, culminating in the lighting of the tree at 6pm! For more information check out their website!!
Have an American Girl doll lover in the family? Visit the American Girl store at the Galleria for a continental breakfast alongside your favorite doll to kick off the holiday festivities! It's a great way for your child to drop not so subtle hints as to what they'd like Santa to bring them this year! This event is for ages 3 and up and does require early reservations and a fee of $20 which includes the meal and a 5x7" photo taken with Santa! For more information visit their website!
Here's to a happy holiday season full of laughter and cheer spent with the ones we love the most!
